I found that a drop of xylene (a solvent you can get at a hardware store in the US) does a good job of dissolving the dried up grease on these drives. Just a drop or so from a cotton swab should do the trick. Do this in a well ventilated area! I found that isopropyl alcohol doesn't do a good...

In these machines, isn't one battery for the startup circuit, and the other for the PRAM? I didn't think they were both feeding the same circuit, but I could be wrong! :)

Looks to me like they relocated that capacitor since it would be physically too big to fit on the analog board - it would interfere with the CRT.

Well, I do have the Xenix install media, but yeah I want to find again what poking around I did on this machine back in the day.

Was working on the Franken-Lisa today, and was able to revive one of my dormant Widget drives by transplanting the top two boards - where the data cable plugs in and the read/write board below it. The target drive would never come ready, and another Widget sounded like something scraping...

Yup - I think you saw the other thread where I inherited two other Indigos - I'm hoping I can come up with one good one! I will have to pull apart one of the power supplies and see if I can come up with a good list of caps to order, and see if any of the other components look iffy.

I inherited these from @Woodengamer but have yet to dig in. I'm hoping one of these might be a suitable organ donor for a R4K Indigo I have with a flakey power supply. Would gladly trade them all for a working Octane; I decided that's the one SGI machine I really want. Maybe someday :)

Wow - that looks nicer than I would expect. Would not have considered wood fiber filament before, but now... Would/could you share the STL for that guy? It would look good next to my Tiny Mac! :)
