Johny I've reflections on Steve Jobs (Oct. 2021)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the book. Did you read my Amazon review where I cited specific passages of the book that really nail jobs to the wall, putting him in a bad light overall? That was the basis for my book review. So while the book did show changes over time, the overall...

    Flyback glue/sealer

Technically speaking, you could even spread Silicone Grease under the cap to accomplish the same. You can seal leaks in the flyback with silicone grease too. It's just that with grease, it will attract dust and grime.

You have my vote for ready-made cables!

    512ke RAM upgrade woes

Yes, but ATX (male & female ends) are so much easier overall on the SE & SE/30 because when you make a cable yourself, you not only need the right connectors at both ends, but the right terminals, the right crimper AND the right wire too! I'd go with 18AWG myself. But when you buy wire, it can...

    Flyback glue/sealer

@Stephen, what was your exact procedure for cleanly removing all the old brown glue on the flyback?

    Flyback glue/sealer

But in this case, there is oily black gunk that was all over the place inside, which is clearly something different. Even so, @reallyrandy did show us that he did seem to have cleaned off all the dielectric coating (usually red) that is affixed to the CRT and sits beneath the anode cap...

    512ke RAM upgrade woes

I really do wish there was an easy solution for the Plus and older like there is for the SE & SE/30, regarding an extension cable. ATX cables are so convenient on the SE series!

    Flyback glue/sealer

That's the first time I've seen anything so horribly coating with an unknown substance. But smokers could have caused that. Very possibly! And with all that horrible cancer-causing gunk on your board, it really would need a good cleaning most of all, above and beyond a recap. @Stephen...

    512ke RAM upgrade woes

Jeff, Henry has not yet registered here at TinkerDifferent but will at some point. He sent me an excellent response by email which I'm sure he won't mind if I now post for you here. Please keep in mind that what you read below is a 100% copy/paste from Henry's email to me, so he must get all...

    Flyback glue/sealer

I'm not surprised about an oily substance on the Anode cap, but "all over the inside of the case" concerns me, especially if by "case" you mean the removable "back plastic case." Could you please post a photo of that?

    *Battery Gore Thread* NSFMacs

Hopefully, you gentlemen don't try to up the scary game by licking the leaked battery juice, which is about the only thing I can conceive as being worse than what I've just subjected my eyes to in this frightful thread! 👻

    Flyback glue/sealer

Feel free to post an Amazon link to the brand and type you used, Stephen. It also seems you just used a regular kind, not a specialty high voltage kind. No problem with that if your use case has shown it works well over time!

    512ke RAM upgrade woes

Jeff, I've written to Henry Spragens, who was a lead engineer at Beck-Tech and also one of the earliest people to join in our TinkerDifferent founding effort. He took a step back early on in the effort and is not on the current Admin team, but he did kindly provide us with some useful thoughts...

    Flyback glue/sealer

If you watch from 15:40 in my video below, you will see the exact darkroom test and blue light I described in my previous post. Keep in mind I boosted the brightness level when editing the video in FCPX. It's actually much harder to see in person. In that video, I said you probably won't be...

    Flyback glue/sealer

I used to think it was epoxy because when you push it with a finger nail nowadays it feels hard as a rock, but people more savvy than me told me it is merely “yellow glue.“ I’ve never been able to determine the exact brand and model number of that glue which was originally used, but clearly it...

    Dark mode vs. Light mode

Prior to choosing this particular Dark theme, our group evaluated several different Light & Dark themes and took a vote. The majority wanted Dark, including myself but some in our group were staunchly for Light. Unfortunately, the creator of this theme is definitely a Sith who holds Jedi with...

    Dark mode vs. Light mode

We paid extra for the Dark Mode plugin, and unfortunately that is an annual recurring cost too. The Light mode doesn't cost us anything extra (beyond the recurring annual XenForo fee) because it's the stock look.
