Comparing stock fan vs. Noctua in an SE/30 with temperature data

I bought these from OWC a few years ago, but cannot find a current seller. It seems I was lucky.

Lombard / Pismo CD & DVD module drive replacement and 'Master' IDE Hack

It seems that the UJ830B works differently in the Lombard than the Pismo; it is not recognized by my Lombard without the master modification. Additionally, although it reads/write with the modification, it won’t boot my Lombard. I’ suppose I’ll have to keep the UJ850 with its generic flat...

Lombard / Pismo CD & DVD module drive replacement and 'Master' IDE Hack

The source of the information of drives compatible with Lombard/Pismo faceplates was jax184.com. This appears to have vanished from the internet, and the Wayback Machine's archive of this site is incomplete, so I'll post a link to a pdf of the webpages I saved in 2023. pdf of...

Lombard / Pismo CD & DVD module drive replacement and 'Master' IDE Hack

The Panasonic UJ-830B is compatible with the stock bezel specifically of the PowerBook DVD-ROM Module M7931. It is not compatible with the bezel of any other Lombard DVD-ROM or CD-ROM module. There needs to be some light sanding and some adhesive on one of the tabs, but the result is a...

    68k Mac Prices from Yesteryear

Around 2005, I bought a IIfx in perfect condition for $5. A few years earlier, I’d bought an SE/30 with Xceed video card from Computer Renaissance for $10, and a Quadra 840AV for $20. I still have the first two. Those were the Golden Days.

I Got An M3 MacBook Pro; Obsolescence Forced My Hand

These locally installed, non-subscription, non-cloud based versions of MS Office can sometimes be found for $50 or so through Cult of Mac, Stacksocial, and other sources.

TiBook Screen Assembly - the forbidden split?

After multiple failed attempts, I gave up on trying to rescue the shells and instead bought NOS shells (and, in some cases, bezels) from Sunshine Express Inc (sunshineex) on eBay. Not cheap, but the end result was pretty good. Right now, I see only the bezels in their eBay store.

    MDD Power Supply Recap Success

Well done! I looked at the insides of my MDD PSU, said “no way,” and backed away slowly and quietly. I got it fixed professionally, and have obtained a couple more PSU’s in case I get up the nerve to tackle them. As far as what to do with it? This is partial list of what I’ve done with mine...

Yet another BlueSCSI SE/30 bracket post…

I searched stlfinder and found this listed as being on Thingiverse. I could have saved myself some time - it turns out I had it in my thingiverse collection already.

Installing a fan into a Mac Plus

This model of Mac tends to be reliable, suggesting that it was designed to tolerate the heat. Just don’t put anything (like books) over the vents.

    Any interest in Palm Pilots?

I loved my Palm Pilots. Unlike my iPhone, they actually beeped at the scheduled time. My iPhone SE gen2 is occasionally late, as much as 45 minutes. Also unlike my iPhone, they did not respond well to being dropped. I tend to drop things - always have. In school, my books would go flying...

    Fixing nonhaptic trackpads

Which model? The trackpad of my 2008 MacBook Pro was replaceable.

No Wonder my SE screen just has a vertical line

The box fan attaches to the analog board to the left on this picture, where the board is labelled “yellow” and “black.” (The wire is red, not yellow, because the fan is a replacement.)

No Wonder my SE screen just has a vertical line

Resistor R31 is a 4.7 ohm 5% tolerance and most likely 1/2 Watt, given it’s larger size compared to most of the other resistors. R31 and the W6 jumper are completely absent from my box fan analog boards (820-0206-B and 820-0206-C).

No Wonder my SE screen just has a vertical line

You can print (or have printed) a fan mount (https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/macintosh-se-or-se-30-fan-bracket.976/) If I recall correctly, the yoke connector that goes with a regular box fan analog board is vertical, whereas the connector that goes with the squirrel cage fan analog board...

No Wonder my SE screen just has a vertical line

This is a good fan replacement - essentially a newer version of one of the original fans: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/sanyo-denki-america-inc/9S0612M402/6192458 Some like the Noctua 60mm fans, as they are known for being quiet.

No Wonder my SE screen just has a vertical line

Replacing the analog board connector should take care of the arcing that likely caused this to happen. If you were planning to keep the analog board connector (not advisable), I’d desolder then resolder it using plenty of flux. That should also take care of the arcing.

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

Thanks for the details - that was very helpful. I found a TiBook battery that came apart easily using the method you described. I still can't open the other TiBook batteries I mentioned earlier - they seem to be welded shut. My plan now is to attempt to open TiBook batteries with the method...

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

I have had no success opening these batteries with typical opening tools. A plastic wedge inserted through a cut I made in the corner or into the slit down the side made by the ultrasonic knife just deforms the plastic case. A metal spudger just bends.

Any interest in NEW Repro Lombard / Pismo battery packs?

Update: An Amazon email said that the marketplace seller did not send the cheap $40 ultrasonic knife, and I will not be charged for it. I bought in its place a $179 Magicutter knife that has two intensity settings: High (15V, bottom of knife shines yellow), and Low (12V, shines green). A...
