I could not see it mentioned, but then again I am notoriously bad at thorough reading... pull all the memory out. Put in known good sticks if you have any, or memory not from the first slot. Disconnect everything else the computer does not need to power on. If you still don't get changes my bet...

Have you had a look at https://uk.rs-online.com/web/ ? I some times use them, been happy with them so far.

So far I've replaced 8 caps in my iMac G5. It was just to get it up and running. Will do the rest when I feel like it. Caps are pretty cheap these days, even good ones.

If you are able, try cd /var/log/ and see if you have a log file there called Xorg.0.log . Open the file with nano xorg.0.log . In there you ought to see if there are any error messages, which should give you a pointer as to what might be causing the problem. For me, the r128 driver does not...
