It seems that my 2006 Xserve 1,1 820-2006-A motherboard (2x3Ghz) has a memory manager issue, and I'm going to replace it rather than spend more time trying to fix it. The question then arises... Like for like, or should I upgrade to a newer board? I have no idea if other boards fit as straight...

Finally managed to do some troubleshooting on the Xserve 1,1. The RAM slots behave very weird. I have four 1GB memory modules, and two 512MB modules. I need to mention first, that slots 2 and 5 don't work at all so I don't populate them at all. Also, the server will ONLY boot in Safe mode...

Sounds like arcing. Could be a bad cap or an almost short in a high voltage area. Just a guess based on your clip.

When I worked for Apple I had a plan to get a G4 or G5 motherboard, cut it in to 4 pieces and stack them on top of each other inside an SE/30. That was before I learned that they were multilayered boards... :ROFLMAO:

I like the strategically placed miter saw. I bet it comes in handy when modifying those IIfx boards to fit in compact Macs :)

I too have the 858D, and I really like it. Choose the right nozzle and it is more than capable for most tasks.

Thanks, it's working fine now. I uploaded a file to test the speeds and I'm getting about 1-1.1MB/sec. Very nice :)

I'm in there now, downloaded the Appleshare client .smi file as it was the largest one in there. Works perfect, nice download speeds. Set up an upload folder too, then I can test the upload speeds as well :)
