    Mac IIci Success Story

Good to know! If I ever get around to working on my cache card I'll update the group. Hard to have motivation to work on them when we're both running more "souped up" cards for the IIci. I got ahold of a 50MHz PowerCache (which your Booster 040 would absolutely blow out of the water)!

SE/30 with Serial Port Issues - Fails Snooper "Handshake Test"

All fixed! A replacement SCC did the trick. I actually used the chip I had saved for my sleek black reloaded board, but seeing Snooper run without issue was worth the sacrifice. That new board is socketed, so I'll give the old chip a test at some point. If the old controller chip was bad, it...

Another IIci Thread - No Video!

I was browsing and have noticed quite a few unresolved threads surrounding video/startup issues with the Mac IIci. My pledge to the forum is that when I solve my own issues, I'll post a follow-up with the solution (if there is one) ;) I've got a recapped IIci board that has a couple of issues...

    Mac IIci Success Story

Did you ever have any luck with the cache card troubleshooting? I have one that behaves in the exact manner you had previously mentioned (boots to a black screen).

SE/30 with Serial Port Issues - Fails Snooper "Handshake Test"

Only thing I can see in schematics are the Bournes RP2 and RP3, which I checked out as part of my initial probing. Other resistors include R40-R43, but I'd doubt that's the cause because they're going to the edge connector on the front of the board. Thanks for the idea though, keep them coming!

SE/30 - Video Faults, Horizontal Bars, Vertical Lines

I'm posting this here in hopes of eventually helping someone else out as I work to solve my own problems. Here's one I haven't seen before, it's a "simasimac" screen with the lovely addition of some video MUX issues (vertical bands). Funny thing is, the board itself is very clean. I've seen much...

SE/30 with Serial Port Issues - Fails Snooper "Handshake Test"

Hi all, I am working on an SE/30 that works with the exception of the serial ports. Snooper 2 is my go-to for testing, as it seems to be reliable in picking up problems. The issue is, the entire system crashes when I run the serial port tests. With loopbacks connected, it'll give me the...

LC III - No sound, no video

Have a good look on the backside of the board at the solder joints for the ROM sockets. If you have no video or chime, my bet is that it's poor contact on the ROMs.

Flux? As in flux capacitor? Oh wait, that's a DeLorean not a Corvette!

    Not only vintage Computers

Thank you! I actually used two floor jacks, alternating raising the front and rear of the car. The cribbing blocks come apart and I’d add layers as needed. Just enough to lower the transmission and slide it out.

    Not only vintage Computers

It's getting to be that time of year when my 1982 Corvette sees more street time! Two-tone blue with a dark blue interior. I bought it in college and don't think I'll ever want to sell it. I've built a new transmission and rear end for it (installed using my DIY car "lift"). Would eventually...

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

I tried a preliminary test with my hardware last night. MacBench 2 shows it slower than a IIfx for me as well - scored almost the same as Colin from what I can tell. System 7.1, internal BlueSCSI v1.1, 20MB RAM (16MB in bank B), no video card. Something seemed buggy though, because the system...

Mac Classic US Version 630-0395 Recap

For what it's worth, there seem to be a couple US versions of this board. The one I see most commonly has a 470uF 50V cap in place of the 1000uF 35V one you have at CP2. I am guessing your board is an early revision. I am not sure if the value matters and either cap may be used in that position...

PowerCache Card in IIci -- Why So Slow?

What version of Speedometer are you using? I've got this same card, and could run some benchmarks on my end to compare.

'Macintosh SE parts only DO NOT PLUG IN'

Nice score! On another note, I don't think I've ever seen a Samsung CRT without burn-in. Clinton must have figured something out that Samsung couldn't - either that or the Samsung tubes were just used without screen savers.

    Macintosh Plus Case Badging Variation

Makes me wonder if there's a safe way to remove the lettering. I have a 512k with a really cracked up front bezel - would be a great replacement for that!

    Macintosh Plus Case Badging Variation

So, I've had this Plus for a while and haven't been sure what to make of it. I've never seen any badging done this way. It has the "square" form factor Apple logo, but with a silkscreen. The silkscreening seems to have been done professionally based on what I can see. I thought the "Plus"...

Crucible for the SMC ROM SIMM

I'm so impressed with this software! Really takes a majority of the guesswork out of programming for a newbie. For those of us with SE/30 reloaded boards, are there any plans to implement a "bitswap" option to generate .bin files for that use case? Either way, great work to all involved.

Apple CD 300 External Ejects Caddy on Insert

Yup, horrible isn't it! I've done two or three of these. To make it easier, I removed the larger ROM chip and used smaller footprint caps in that area to make soldering them a little easier. The angles are a bit tricky but it's do-able.
