Apple CD 300 External Ejects Caddy on Insert

Those symptoms are typically a dead giveaway of the PCB inside the drive needing to be recapped. Bruce has a guide here that should be exactly the model you have: https://recapamac.com.au/sony-cdrom/

    Recent HiBid Auction

I'm glad I'm not the only one recently affected by the sad attempt at packaging. Here's a little taste of what I was greeted with when I opened a couple boxes... I tried calling their main number, but didn't get an answer. If they tell me to pound sand, I'll be really frustrated. I wouldn't...

    Recreating Macintosh Portable Hybrid Module

I have a couple portable boards that don't boot, but I haven't done any deep exploration into whether the hybrid is to blame... I better let someone with a known bad hybrid take a shot at these wonderful recreations!

Macintosh TV C195 pad ripped off

A completely healthy system shouldn't need to sit with power for very long in order to boot. To me this indicates some other power issue, probably with the analog board. Has that been recapped? If your bodge wire is making contact and you've tested with a multimeter, I wouldn't think the logic...

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Looks like a nice color match. I'm curious to see how it holds up over time. How did you prep the surface of the mouse? Any sanding or just a good cleaning?

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Nice - looking good. I too am a sucker for the black Mac models. I remember when I was much younger, I saw a picture of the Mac TV and decided to paint the case of my LCIII black. Needless to say it didn't look nearly as nice as a factory black Mac. Although I didn't come across a Mac TV of my...

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

With the exception of the 580CD, the analog board and CRT should be swappable. The auto inject floppy and caddy CD ROM are nothing special either, just watch out for capacitor leakage on the CD ROM logic board. Every one I've seen has some pretty bad cap leakage. Not horrible to fix, just...

Rasterops ClearVue/SE PDS Card - External Monitor? Accelerator?

Wow - you've really outdone yourself! Clearly I'm no good at research... definitely didn't know where to look. That is so neat that this thing has a built-in accelerator. That said, I don't think it's working how it's supposed to. I booted from Floppy EMU and was able to launch TattleTech...

Rasterops ClearVue/SE PDS Card - External Monitor? Accelerator?

I've had this board for a while but haven't really looked at it much until recently. I have no idea what it's for, other than maybe driving an external monitor. I really can't find any information online about it either. My question is this - why would it need a 68000 processor and four RAM...

Mac IIsi No Video - Resurrection Thread

Posting this here to help document a fix that worked for me to get this machine up and running again. A few months back, I ended up with a IIsi that had some of the worst cap leakage I've seen. Lots of corrosion and missing solder mask. I don't have a photo handy but I'll try to find one (seeing...

    SE/30 with No Video

Well, I ended up ordering enough SN74LS393DR, SN74F253D, and SN74LS166ANSR chips to replace all of the video MUXs. I also have a different set of video RAM I can try. That'll be a last resort though, as the current chips aren't socketed.

    SE/30 with No Video

UE8 is making good contact at all of its legs. I did measure continuity at the top of the leg nearest the chip in order to make sure the leg/pad contact was good as well. Here is what it looked like after the cleaning. There's still some flux on the board from the recap, but I don't think that's...

    SE/30 with No Video

Hi all, I decided to document my latest project board - yup, another battery bombed SE/30. Now, some photos! This is how I received it (yikes). Here's what it looked like after a very thorough cleaning. This is where I'm at now: Battery holder removed UD1 removed, cleaned, replaced RP4...

SE/30 crash when writing to floppy

I had a similar problem with SCSI devices on my SE/30. Turned out to be one disconnected trace from the SCSI chip. I bet if you probe around your SWIM you'll find a broken connection somewhere.

    LC 575 Video issue

I have a 575 that lost red. Adjusting pots didn't do anything. Some days it would start up and all colors would be great, and other times I'd be missing the red again. I poked around all the solder joints connecting the neck board to the analog board (to see if there was an intermittent...

The case of two Mac TVs

I know what you mean with the Sony sound cards. I have a few, and they're all disgusting from cap goo. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to repairing them. Good work on the Mac TVs!

So I hear you like overclocking? [BlueSCSI]

I was able to finally get my platform.io extensions working right to flash the modified code to the BlueSCSI. Well, results speak for themselves and I'm very impressed. I tested two systems briefly and found a modest increase in both write and read speeds. I know, I know, I didn't use SCSI...

So I hear you like overclocking? [BlueSCSI]

Don't know how I missed this thread until today... I'd try it myself if I wasn't still having issues with VS Code extensions. In the event I am actually able to get it flashed, I'll post an update. Great work Eric!

Massive Vintage Apple Haul in Idaho

Not only did you repurpose part of your wife's workspace, the fact that she actually helped you organize tells me you've got a true keeper! If I came home with all this, I'd be sleeping in the garage with the computers... HA
