    Finally, a nice Quadra 840AV

Gayle, thanks for sharing that story. I was 13 in 1984. When my father and I were in a computer shop early that year to pick up our fist home computer (the Macintosh 128K), I recall spotting the larger Lisa on display near the Mac display. I asked, "What's that?" To which my father replied...

iMac (Late-2009) Graphics Card Bake Success Story

It's wonderful to see your amazing success story here in the forum, Gale. Your attention to detail and determination paid off. Congratulations on a job well done! 👏 🥳

The Secret History of Mac Gaming: Expanded Edition

Interestingly, I've never lost a book. But at my age, the thing I increasingly lose these days is my mind. 🤪

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

Thank you for reminding me about that difference! The hole diameter of the MG Chemicals flux syringe (needle nose) is a bit wider than the AMTECH. Even so, it takes about the same force on the plunger to get each flux out via the needle during cold weather. I guess the added rosin in the MG...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

Not yet. I merely posted my "review" of sorts here. I did read through all the Amazon reviews. Not a single person mentioned what I mentioned. I guess I alone care about such things, which is rather odd.

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

No, I'm satisfied with the MG flux for reasons mentioned in my opening post. I just had higher expectations for the AMTECH kit, and was a bit disappointed when comparing it to the MG, not simply in terms of the flux, but with regard to the dispenser. I absolutely LOVE the fact the MG plunger...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

So it's not just me then. You seem to understand what I mean about the included 559 plunger being inappropriate. While it is nice to have an EBAY solution, the MG Chemicals product is functional and needs nothing extra. The best part is, I can buy it from Mouser, but I can't buy the 559 from...

Is the AMTECH 559 PLUNGER botched?

I've been using MG Chemicals flux, with built-in syringe and plunger. It has been great. But with so many people constantly raving about AMTECH 559, I decided to give that a try. Sadly, only the Chinese knock-off "559" is sold here in Japan that I can see, so I purchased 559 from Amazon USA...

Apple's Concession to Right to Repair

Spotted this article today: https://appleinsider.com/articles/21/11/17/apple-will-allow-customers-to-repair-iphones-and-macs-in-2022 This won't help folks who have "obsolete" Macs since I believe Apple only offers parts for about 7 years. There are older Intel Macs like the late 2009 27" iMac...

    Quadra 650 logic board

Sounds like the pins must have rotted while still fitted inside that CPU connector. Wow! I do see a lot of corrosion on the metal "+" shaped bracket that holds the heatsink on. It guess that board has been through a lot. By the way, do you remove the CPUs with a tool like this?

The Secret History of Mac Gaming: Expanded Edition

I have the 1st edition. No doubt many of you do too. What are you all doing with your 1st editions? (I doubt they'd sell now that the expanded version is out, and I honestly don't need two books largely the same!)

    Quadra 650 logic board

Wow, Kai! The 040 processor really broken apart when you tried to pry it out of the socket? Did the ceramic body crack when you tried to remove the heatsink holder? I must say the board looks very nice after your cleaning. It is a pretty large board, so did you have to do half at a time in...

Add Thread Links to Photos displayed under "Latest Profile Posts"

"Latest Profile Posts" in the right sidebar are not as intuitive as they could be. Every time I see photos posted there, I instinctively click on the photos, only to be disappointed that the associated thread doesn't open due to the lack of a link. It would be nice to click a pic to open its...

Forum preferences saved to account instead of cookies

It's a very reasonable request. I hide a bunch of categories at home, and then when I came to work and logged in, everything was expanded again. Of course, that only applies to Dark Mode too. Folks with the Light theme don't even have the option to collapse categories they don't want to see...

    50-pin SCSI HDD won't mount

I've got an Apple-branded Quantum Fireball 1280S 1.2GB 3.5" SCSI drive that won't mount. If I change the SCSI ID via jumpers, SCSI Probe shows the correct ID every time. But SCSI Probe won't mount it, nor will any other Utility app I've tried. Most utility apps (Lido, SilverLining, etc.)...

    Color Classic Mystic Upgrade

No fear of a Takky upgrade by me, Drake. "68K" is permanently etched on my heart. 💘 I also like the ability to run System 7.1. The PM 6100 could do that, but Takky requires the PM 5200 or higher, which only works with System 7.5.x or higher. To be honest, I'd love to run System 6 on my...

    Color Classic Mystic Upgrade

Drake, I always try to be myself in my videos, rather than display a fake emotion. Of course, the unfortunate fact about my personality is that I don't have my MadMax supercharger switched on most of the time. :-) That's especially true because I film after a long day at work, and I am usually...

    Too many categories

@Patrick I fully understand your sentiments. I recognize your feelings to be important too, because there are a good number of folks who really dislike Dark mode, for one reason or another. I believe a short summary of what you would like is this: a new Light theme, which at the very least...
