Floppy disk vertical? Disks pop out like a toaster? Aside from the concerns over dust (we could put a flip cover to protect it when not in use, I think the idea would be awesome. The problem is still the display.

Do either basic bezel form factor with a single, vertical Twiggy drive slot in place of the 8" FDD slot with the remainder of the bezel a 1080p TPD. Yout 9.& inch LCD would align nicely with the 5.25 inch Twiggy slot I think.

Your current case could be fleshed out into something like this one by herr Esslinger @ Company:

Shorten it up a quite a bit, sans printer with the display in a frogdesign inspired flat panel case and it could look a bit like this:

Had his steveness and the Mac project failed with the Lisa carrying the DTP banner into history, the Lisa III might have looked more the Mac II than its predecessors as happened with the Mac.

With acceleration, the new CatMacFPGA is definitely the Lisa III, so take its wide screen case design into the frogdesign what if verse. Such would be a Macintosh free, future forward SteamPunk kinda thing?


edit: a Laptop slot loader optical would take the place of the 8" FDD for function/looks and can stick out the backside, but a 1.4 FDD enclosure would be provided for side slot flexibilityThe Twiggy Slot would then be for looks alone.

Ok, added a little character to the case. The Apple / Lisa logo didn’t work out as I’d hoped. I was trying to use PETG as a support for the PLA (they aren’t supposed to stick together, so support removal should be much easier, /!: I thought using black against the white would make it easier to see what needed to be removed. Unfortunately, it causes color bleed and because the area around the logos is so small, it all blends together and become unremovable.

Once I tweak the model a bit I’ll print it in platinum pla with a grey background around the apple and Lisa logos. I also don’t like the contrast of the black behind the buttons. The subtlety of the debossed text is cleaner looking and still ensures people can find the right button. I also reduced the size of the cut-outs for the buttons and enlarged the logos to hopefully improve the printability. And I replaced the finger sized cut out for the power switch with a little pull tab.

One question for those who might be interested in this: There are a decent number of switches on the top of the board. Are you OK opening up the case if you need to change these (e.g. keyboard or mouse input, ESFloppy vs FloppyEmu, Speed settings)? Adding a bunch of switches to the top would be a challenge and would really clutter up the look of the top. I would really like to remove the buttons for the Program, and ESProfile/ESFloppy reset buttons. I just haven't used the device enough yet to know how often they'd be needed once set up. If it's only doing troubleshooting / setup, it would be nice just to have the 6 buttons at the bottom.
