Sony Trinitron - one of the GREATEST TV and monitor technologies in history 📺

I bought myself a scratch and dent Sony Trinitron TV for college. It was a fantastic looking TV (except for the gouge out of the plastic on the top). Sadly I think I got rid of it shortly after I graduate. Technically, I have one today, since I have the Macintosh Color Display, which is a...

Using the Sun to restore a yellow Macintosh ☀️

I haven't had much luck with sun alone, especially since I feel like that heat and humidity for long periods is not the best. I think the "low and slow" method of using lower powered UV LED lights combined with peroxide creme, wrapped in plastic wrap to keep the creme from drying out has never...

    NeXT and BlueSCSI question

Good to know if my old SCSI2SD ever dies. I bought it and struggled with it long before BlueSCSI was a thing, but will certainly be replacing it with a BlueSCSI if that time comes.

    I miss the internet...

I agree. The one part of personally hosts sites, however, is that often they are not maintained. Someone stops paying the DNS registration fees, doesn't keep their dynamic DNS entries updated. And when that happens we can lose a wealth of (sometimes unique) knowledge. The Wayback machine can...

    Recent HiBid Auction

I guess I'm really glad I ended up not bidding on the 575 they had listed. I can't imagine what that looked like given their packaging job.

    I miss the internet...

It certainly is a different time. Different even than it was 5-10 years ago. There's much to be said for keeping certain things in check, but the problem is believing that any one large group can be expected to no succumb to the lure of censoring others "for the good of all". The problem is...

Proper handling of laptop batteries in vintage machines

So my vintage collection probably has 15-20 laptops at this point, ranging from a Powerbook 165 up to a relatively modern Intel MacBook Air. Many of the older models have removable batteries, some of which even still hold a charge. However, I recently broke out my Powerbook 540c (with a nice...

Imagine what car guys think about the time and effort we put into fixing up old electronics, restoring plastics on 30yo machines... Especially when they see some of our workspaces...

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Sadly, I never had the MacTV as a child, but it would have been fantastic for that.

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Did they photoshop a generic DVD drive onto a 5200/5400 Directors Edition? I don't believe those ever came with a DVD (CD-ROM only). The funny part is I feel like that matches the beige CD cartridge door cover of the MacTV, so it kind of makes me wish I had kept the CD tray front platinum...

    Gefen 4x1 DVI/ADC switch

Hmmm. the 2.5A one might not be enough. I'm not sure I want to spend 3x what I spent on the hub on a power supply though. Thanks for the info. I should have looked that up for myself. I do wonder how the original power supply for the gaffer unit got away with being a 60W version.

    Gefen 4x1 DVI/ADC switch

Yeah, I was more curious if anyone had one as to which pins are the 24v pins and I could make my own with a generic 24v power supply. I doubt the 22" Cinema LCD would need 60W.

    Gefen 4x1 DVI/ADC switch

Yea, no power requirements on the bottom. I believe the DVI only switch is 12v, but my guess is they went with a 24v power supply because the ADC cable must power not just the switch, but the monitor that is plugged into the ADC cable (ADC delivers power, USB, audio over one cable). This...

    Gefen 4x1 DVI/ADC switch

I picked up a Gefen ADC switch recently, sans power supply. It takes 4 DVI inputs (as well as USB, and audio) and outputs DVI / USB, and audio, as well as all those things over an ADC connector. So, my goal is to hook up all my towers, including my Intel PowerMac, via DVI to the switch...

    Macintosh TV CRT replacement

Yes, I used the Duplicolor Flat Black Vinyl and Carpet paint from the auto parts store again. I picked the vinyl paint because it purportedly is a bit flexible and would be better for the cables. But it seemed to do really well on the hard plastics and the finish is a very close match to the...

    PowerCD problem / fix

Let me know if it works. I hope its a simple fix for you. There are other possible causes, like the lens on the laser being dirty / damaged so it cannot lock on to the CD. but you can check if spinning the spindle has resistance. If so, it's likely been pushed in too far.

Blackbird PCMCIA Module: worth setting out on a clone quest?

That's crazy. I ended up trading my rev C to someone on Reddit for a Mac Plus. Fortunately the Mac Plus was easily restored to a working state and when I opened it up to do so, I found there was a 030 accelerator in there. So probably a fair trade... I still have an earlier rev one in my...

    PowerCD problem / fix

I recently was able to find an untested PowerCD unit, along with a untested PowerCD unit with base station (the unit itself had physical damage to the shell). I figure between the two units, I could manage one usable one to use with the base. No power adapter, so I grabbed 8 AA batteries to...
