Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

Went to look at the board. I'm an idiot. It was UF8...

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

No, I mis-typed. It was the UG8 chip... Too many chips and schematics rattling around in my head. I updated my post to correct it.

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

OK, so we have a winner! It seems like the UF8 chip was not behaving properly. I swapped it out and the frequencies look good and the screen image is whole now! SOLUTION: I swapped out the malfunctioning chip at UF8 for one from a parts board. Thank you so much for your help!!! Edit...

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

Yes, I meant 119.6Hz. Pin 2 was 11.13KHz (same as TWOLINE). I show 11.13 (my multimeter isn't great) on pin 12 of UC7, confirmed that's what I see on pin 1 of UF8. Pin 3 on UF8 also read 11.13, as does pin 2 on UG6. On UG6, all the pins cut the frequency in half from 2-7, but pin 8 seemed...

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

OK, thank you so much for the insight. I tested and HSYNC is 22.25 and the TWOLINE is 11.125. BUUUUT, the VSYNC is 119.6KHz, which sounds like the reason for my problem (VSYNC being 2x what it should means HSYNC is relatively half of what it needs to be to keep them in sync. What drives...

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

The sync pins are all properly connected - no bad traces or pads. I don't have a scope to check signal (nor do I know what I'd be looking for). Is it possible its with the video multiplexors. Don't those break up processing of the video signals and then merge them together? If 2 of the 4...

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

The analog board has been ruled out, as I have tried a working board with this analog board and it displays fine. I also tried this logic board with a different analog board and it displayed improperly as well. If it was an analog board problem, wouldn't the image be drawn improperly. From...

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

OK, I'll try to decipher the schematics and do some checking. Any good resources for how to read the schematics here: https://museo.freaknet.org/gallery/apple/stuff/mac/andreas.kann/schemat.html I'm not an electrical engineer and have no background in this, so I don't really know how to read it.

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

The more I look at it, it seems like it is drawing every other row on the screen. Would a VSYNC issue cause this?

Mac SE video output compressed vertically (not tall enough / skipping rows)

TLDR: Analog board adjustment has been made to no avail, compressed picture persists across multiple known good analog boards that show full picture with other logic boards. Confirming problem is on the logic board). I recently picked up an SE/30 for a steal but it had a Simasimac screen with...

Help installing software in Lisa Office System 3

^^^ This is the solution! ^^^ Ah, that is the trick! I had no idea you couldn't just "copy" (which I believe in LOS is actually a move) an app off the floppy. So you are correct, the proper way to install an app from a floppy disk (real or emulated) is to select the application, press...

Help installing software in Lisa Office System 3

Interesting. I only have the floppy emu plugged into the Lisa at the moment. When I use their 3.1 disks it doesn't prompt me for the app disks. Any idea which LOS3.1 disks you used with that process? I was able to get LisaWrite to "install" but copying the app and stationary from the 2...

Help installing software in Lisa Office System 3

Anyone have any tips on how to get a complete install, with applications, on my internal hard drive? I was able to finally get my keyboard fully working, and would not like to get a good setup of LOS 3.1 and MacWorks XL on it with a variety of apps. Thanks! BTW, this is the error I receive...

    Retr0bright findings

Be very careful with this technique. Certainly don't allow direct sunlight to hit it or you will likely get marbling. I build a UV light box from a plastic bin lined with UV LED light strips and I do it overnight. I typically leave it in for 10-14 hours. I'm not sure if the heat or the...

    PowerCD problem / fix

Mine is still working great. I’m guessing years of people pushing their disc in a bit too hard slowly pushes it down on the spindle.

Help installing software in Lisa Office System 3

Trying to load up my Lisa with some software now that I have a working display, one working memory board, a Cameo/Aphid HD emulator, and a FloppyEmu. I created a blank image in Cameo/Aphid Selector, installed LOS 3 from floppy images on the FloppyEmu. I can boot from it and the image, and load...

    Macintosh Portable horror story

Yeah, I was thinking a couple of bent contacts for positive and negative, like the battery compartment in the Portable. Then a momentary switch in the base that the weight of the battery will hold down. With a slight chamfer to the lip to guide it into the contacts (fortunately the contacts...

    Macintosh Portable horror story

So, it looks like the LiFePO4 battery does have a slightly higher voltage when charged (6.57 vs 6.38). I would have thought the higher voltage would simply have made it think the battery was fully charged. I'll see how things go after the hybrid board is swapped out. Any tips for removing...

Yeah, let's see if those work and if you're willing to snip off a bit and print som feet, I'll split the cost of the silicon tubing and pay for shipping. I'm not in a huge rush as I will probably be keeping the Portable opened up for a while doing the power port repairs, recap of the backlight...

    Macintosh Portable horror story

Yeah it looks like the rod is 1mm and the outer diameter is supposed to be 4mm (mine is all over the place). As long as it is grippy enough to grab the track ball, that might be a good solution. And much easier to get a perfectly round outer diameter. Mine left/right one is slightly lumpy and...
