    BlueSCSI Issues - Bus Error

Here are some pictures of it - let me know if I should look at something further!

    BlueSCSI Issues - Bus Error

It did work with System 6 on my SE; however there were still some weird issues that popped up occasionally, so I think the extra overhead of loading System 7 is what triggered it. @Drake assembled it. I can get a picture of it later today. Should this be an issue even if the images work fine...

    BlueSCSI Issues - Bus Error

This is a continuation of an old thread: https://tinkerdifferent.com/threads/macintosh-se-wont-boot-system-7.792/ tl;dr - Booting System 7 off of my BlueSCSI didn't work. I got a RaSCSI instead, and that worked. Since then I put the BlueSCSI away and didn't think about it too much. I've...

iBook Clamshell - Only Detecting 64MB of 512MB RAM Stick?

I reached out to OWC, and here's what they suggested: I tried both these things (not the rubber eraser, as I couldn't find one at home, but everything else), as well as trying to clean the iBook's pins, but it's still only reading the stick as 64MB. I'm not sure if I'll actually pursue this...

Easy way to transfer files to and from iMac G3?

Any old USB drive should work. USB 1.1 is slow, but perfectly functional. It probably doesn't have enough power for your HDD, especially if it's expecting USB 3, which provides more power. A USB SD card adapter should also work. You can format the drive as HFS+ (aka Mac OS Extended). Both sides...

iBook Clamshell - Only Detecting 64MB of 512MB RAM Stick?

I do not - the closest is my PowerBook G4, which takes DDR.

iBook Clamshell - Only Detecting 64MB of 512MB RAM Stick?

To clarify - I don't have a main system battery either, so PRAM should reset whenever I unplug it.

iBook Clamshell - Only Detecting 64MB of 512MB RAM Stick?

I checked the RAM, and OWC's label matches what I ordered. I looked at the individual chips, which are labelled as 48lc32m16a2. There are 8 of them. From googling these are 512Mb chips, so 8 of them would make 512MB. I reseated the RAM, no difference. I did not try to manually reset the PRAM...

    What's your oldest working battery?

While I don't know exactly what conditions can cause a battery to blow up (I heard that if it still has a charge it's probably fine?), I'd still recommend replacing that ASAP to limit the risk.

    What's your oldest working battery?

Earlier this year, I bought my SE. The seller told me they replaced the soldered battery with a battery holder. I assumed they replaced the battery too, because the time & settings were being saved between boots. I did notice the clock was a little slow, so I checked out the battery to test the...

iBook Clamshell - Only Detecting 64MB of 512MB RAM Stick?

I just installed a 512MB RAM stick from OWC into my clamshell iBook. However, in Apple System Profiler, it's only showing the stick as 64MB (plus the 64MB built-in to the logic board, so 128MB total). I'm running Mac OS 9.2.2. Normally I'd assume that I got a mislabeled part, but since I assume...

    SCSI Zip Drives?

It looks like the first one did accept returns as well, so I just went ahead and ordered that one. Thanks for the help!

    SCSI Zip Drives?

Thanks! I'll think about that one, seems like a slight gamble since it's untested (other than power). Glad I know what to look for now, though!

    SCSI Zip Drives?

Thanks - that's what I figured, but so many people were making the same mistake I wanted to double check!

    SCSI Zip Drives?

I recently got a USB Zip drive that came along with a bunch of other stuff, so I thought getting a SCSI one would be a good way to moving files between my SE/30 and modern machines. Unfortunately, it looks like SCSI Zip drives are relatively rare (at least to find working models). What's been...

Tiger Installed, but Won't Boot on 12" PB G4

Yep that's the link! No idea why I couldn't find it earlier, but Garden's search functionality seems... finnicky. I used #32 on that list. And that wasn't a typo! Sorbet Leopard is a modified version of Leopard: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/sorbet-leopard

Tiger Installed, but Won't Boot on 12" PB G4

I kept my existing partition map, and only reformatted my Tiger partition (that was originally formatted with the OS 9 installer). The other two partitions were left alone. No idea why Tiger didn't like that partition but Sorbet Leopard was fine, but if someone was planning on trying this in the...

Tiger Installed, but Won't Boot on 12" PB G4

Weirdly, I can't seem to find it on Garden today - maybe the page got taken down? But I was using the retail DVD. Additionally, I resolved this issue by just reformatting the partition.

Mac OS 8.1 on SE/30, and RaSCSI Daynaport

The DaynaPort driver issue? Did you try a custom installation of the drivers?

Mac OS 8.1 on SE/30, and RaSCSI Daynaport

Yeah tl;dr on this is that I got the Daynaport drivers to work but just using a custom installation, and Speed Doubler lets me do Finder operations in the background on System 7. After trying both, even though I have 128MB of RAM, 8 is quite a bit slower than 7.5, so I'll probably stick with 7.5...
