[System 6] [RaSCSI] [SOLVED] CD ROM support

I know that the Mac Plus has a goofy SCSI implementation that can require special termination or resistors or something on the device - have you looked into that?

Tiger Installed, but Won't Boot on 12" PB G4

I've installed Tiger onto my 12" 867MHz PowerBook G4 using the Garden image, and it seemed to install correctly. However, when I try to boot from that drive, it tries to boot for a little bit, until I'm greeted with a disappointing grey 🚫/"not" sign. I tried verbose boot, and got an error...

Mac OS 8.1 on SE/30, and RaSCSI Daynaport

I put 8.1 on my SE/30, which runs fairly well! However, I haven't been able to install the drivers for my RaSCSI's Daynaport emulation. It says the folder "Network" cannot be modified by the installer, and the Garden page for the drivers only mentions it being compatible with System 6/7. I'm...

BlueSCSI SD Transfer Utility - Alpha Testers Wanted!

As a follow up to this, I installed Stuffit 5.5 and now I no longer have any issues with the archives I was trying. My two cents would be recommending that archivers use older versions when uploading files, since 5.5 requires an '020 and System 7, but there might be reasons I'm unaware of to use...

[System 6] [RaSCSI] [SOLVED] CD ROM support

Have you tried all the options listed on the wiki? https://github.com/akuker/RASCSI/wiki/Drive-Setup#Mounting_CD_ISO_or_MO_images I believe most or all of these options are also contained in the Bootstrap image you can get here: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/rascsi-reloaded

PRAM Capacitor to PRAM Battery in the iBook and 12" PowerBook G4 models

Mine does have the capacitor as well, I haven't really tested it but it seems to hold a charge for long enough? In any case, my battery works fine enough, and I can't imagine this would motivate me to open that damn thing up again anyways lol

    The macOS 9.2.2 iBook G4 and PowerBook G4! 😁

Yes, spudgers are 100% a must here! Hopefully the plastic is easier to work with. On mine, the sharp aluminum edges took a number on my spudgers. I used the IFixIt 64 piece Mako kit, but screws here were the easy part. At least they only use two types of heads!

Compaq laptop brought back to life

I think I had a very similar hand-me-down one of these when I was a kid - is this an Armada? Although mine might have been PII.

Aha, thank you! That's probably my problem.

    The macOS 9.2.2 iBook G4 and PowerBook G4! 😁

I'm actually planning on 3 partitions - OS 9, Tiger, and Sorbet Leopard - but I was mostly wondering about HFS+/Apple Partition Map's capability of modifying partition tables without completely erasing the disk. For example, if later on I decide I want to install some flavor of Linux later on on...

    The macOS 9.2.2 iBook G4 and PowerBook G4! 😁

By the way, anyone have a recommendation for how to set up the partitions? I started off partitioning my 256GB drive with just 20GB or so for OS 9 and leaving the rest blank. My plan was then to add another partition and use Target Disk Mode to then restore the old HDD to the new drive. However...

    The macOS 9.2.2 iBook G4 and PowerBook G4! 😁

Just finished the job last night! As expected, a huge pain in the ass, haha. Yeah looking back at that comment I'm not sure what I had in mind, since thinking about it now I haven't actually worked on too many laptops from the early '00s. Most laptops definitely have easier ways to get to the...

BlueSCSI SD Transfer Utility - Alpha Testers Wanted!

I'm pretty new to vintage Macs, and the prevalence of Stuffit has definitely been frustrating to me, haha. My understanding is that you can fix them and see what version they're for in ResEdit, is that correct?

BlueSCSI SD Transfer Utility - Alpha Testers Wanted!

Those are probably my issues then - I think I was using 4.5, because I had the same issue trying to expand 5.5 haha. I think your utility would be useful on its own just for repairing those properties!

BlueSCSI SD Transfer Utility - Alpha Testers Wanted!

Anecdotally, I have had lots of issues where StuffIt refuses to touch some downloaded .sit files. My workflow is Garden -> RaSCSI CD Image -> SE/30 System 7.5. This may also be worth splitting into its own thread since it doesn't seem directly related to BlueSCSI, just wanted to add this as I...

    The macOS 9.2.2 iBook G4 and PowerBook G4! 😁

Yeah, I clicked through to the forum post hosting the image and I think those issues might have been fixed in a newer release, but the internal speakers might not work. In any case, I'm excited to try OS 9 on this - should be extremely fast! Also, I looked up what it takes to replace the...

    The macOS 9.2.2 iBook G4 and PowerBook G4! 😁

Yeah, the HDD replacement looks like a huge pain in the ass, but still easier than a lot of PCs of that era still lol. Hopefully your iBook is somewhat easier. The 12" only came in Aluminum, and does not support 9 natively. Apparently it was the first model to drop Mac OS 9 support entirely...
