Maxell responded to the battery leak issue on Twitter

Gosh, the damage in that thread was somehow even worse than anything in the 68kMLA thread on the topic, jeez! That one on Kai's poor SE board looks like it's about to burst!

Maxell responded to the battery leak issue on Twitter

I mean, you just can't predict these things when they're new. I don't really blame Maxell here even, as the rep said, they were fine during their expected life span, it was only in the late 200s when the ones from the early 90s began to blow. They had no way of checking what formula and build...

Maxell responded to the battery leak issue on Twitter

I just saw this on twitter and thought it was funny, felt like sharing it here. First, I saw this post from Garth Beagle showing that he somehow found a Maxell battery that still held charge, that's a new one! https://nitter.net/GarthBeagle/status/1581051668665274368#m Then, Maxell ended up...

    Reading SMT capacitor values

47uf 16v - a very standard spec on these Mac boards. I wouldn't worry about matching a series, I'd even go tantalum if I were you. Matching the series matters with something extra-sensitive like a PSU or analog board, but not much on a motherboard with tiny values like these.

    Reading SMT capacitor values

post a picture of the caps in question. You seem to have hit it on the nose though, M7 or whatever would be the series, first number down is the capacitance, second is the voltage. This is the case for just about every one of those trash cans.

Cracked folder icon on grey screen--help!

No worries about the help, that's what these forums are for. You don't need to get yourself original discs off eBay, you can burn a copy yourself using a different system and some blank discs. Make sure you set the burn speed really low, or the discs may have trouble reading in the iMac's...

Cracked folder icon on grey screen--help!

The model number should be part of the text that's going around the edge of the base. 800MHz means you may or may not be able to run Puma, later model 800MHz iMacs shipped with Jaguar, which performs better than Puma anyways. I'd recommend burning a set of Jaguar discs, hold C down to boot from...

Cracked folder icon on grey screen--help!

First off, what model of iMac G4 do you have? Somewhere on the back of the bottom should be a model number starting with either M or A followed by 4 numbers. Post that here and I'll check what Operating Systems you can run on it. If you hold down the alt/option key on startup, it will pull up...

Cracked folder icon on grey screen--help!

I've heard of that broken folder icon before, it just means you're system folder is damaged. Does your iMac officially support 10.1? No iMac G4 that officially supported Leopard also supported 10.1, although someone could have installed it anyway as it will run fine on an 800MHz system. Finally...

    Androda's V3 PowerBook BlueSCSI in various PB1xx

Modern cameras seem to have trouble with the refresh rate of passive-matrix panels, sort of like CRTs. Pictures of my 145's display don't always turn out well either. Also, I've got a F4lite PB BlueSCSI THT running great in my 180c, though it is a different varient.

    AppleVision 850AV Repair

Thanks a bunch! Good luck getting it fixed, I do quite like the aesthetics of this one. They look rather goofy, yet somehow it just works. The Multiple Scan 15AV on the other hand...

Is newer plastic just as bad as 90s plastic?

We all know that the plastic used in the 90s stunk across the board. I mean, just look at all the laptops from that time and try to find one that doesn't have hinge issues, whether it be broken screw standoffs or stress-cracking around the display housing. This has always been an issue we've...

    AppleVision 850AV Repair

Thanks for making this great list of caps for the monitor! Do you mind if I add it and the image to my website's capacitor reference library? I'm attempting to make it as complete as possible, but I can't get all this info myself. As for the monitor, I've heard these are really unreliable and...

    Beige G3 Desktop Restoration

Applying thermal paste to a bare CPU die is completely safe. The "metal lid" you're talking about is called a heat spreader, and it's job is to act like a tiny integrated heat sink to spread the heat out more for the cooler (pretty sure that's the purpose anyway), and I do believe there is...

    PowerBook 604e "Mainstreet"

Thanks for the clarification, it would be interesting to see if anyone could get a 604 running in a PowerBook. Apple never did it, probably because of cooling issues, but I'll bet someone now could figure that out.

    PowerBook 604e "Mainstreet"

You're sure that's true for all 603s? The 603ev on my 3400c looked a lot smaller than the G3 on my Wallstreet. Do the 740 and 750 have different pinouts?

    Beige G3 Desktop Restoration

It's worth noting that I've heard the CPU VRM modules in these can need to be recapped, or that some are just crap in general. You might want to go there next, I'd suspect those over the SMDs on the board at this point in their life. It's never a bad idea to replace them though, I recapped my...
