Grail Item Acquired - Twentieth Anniversary Mac

Well yes, but they use the same screen so the signals are compatible. If there’s a better screen for the TAM, it should also work in the 3400.

Grail Item Acquired - Twentieth Anniversary Mac

P/N of the screen in my 3400 was the Sharp LQ12S11. @Action Retro said in his TAM video that his screen was a Samsung IIRC, so there may be more than one vendor.

Grail Item Acquired - Twentieth Anniversary Mac

If someone figures that out I’d love to get an XGA screen running in my 3400 😃

Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.

I honestly don’t subscribe to the whole “YouTubers are only in it for themselves” idea that I see talked about a lot here. To be clear, many are, but I haven’t seen anything to suggest that in this community. The youtubers associated with this site are all pretty small all things considered, and...

A great (and perhaps little known) feature of SheepShaver

Never knew that, that's awesome! I haven't used SheepShaver in a looooong time, but self-contained VMs and direct mounting of my RaSCSI HDAs seems like a pretty useful set of features!

Powerbook screen image flickers once after a reboot, otherwise white screen

That will do it! Glad it's working now.

Powerbook screen image flickers once after a reboot, otherwise white screen

Don't underestimate the value of a very thorough cleaning. It can solve a lot of problems. Already cleaned it? Do it again! Both sides of the board. Check for bad traces/shorts anywhere. Could be one leg on a chip that isn't making good contact that's causing the display not to refresh as it should.

Today, I swapped this old clunker out of my PowerBook 180c, replacing it with a BlueSCSI. The 180c is a lot faster now!

180c contrast drifting issue - inverter board caps?

Update for anyone viewing this with the same issue - it's a voltage issue. Adjusting the front voltage potentiometers somewhat fixes it, although I haven't been able to get it perfect, but I've gotten it so that it does this when it's first been started up and then goes back to normal after...

PRAM Capacitor to PRAM Battery in the iBook and 12" PowerBook G4 models

The ones in the clamshells are starting to leak. https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/ibook-g3-pram-capacitor-schematic.41440/ It certainly isn’t unheard of, the original Xbox uses a similar but larger cap and it’s infamous for leaking.

don't forget to get that PRAM battery out! They blow up.

Compaq laptop brought back to life

rechargeables at the time were often NiMH, and they will absolutely leak. Haven't heard of them being in Compaqs, but most other brands have used them at the time.

    The macOS 9.2.2 iBook G4 and PowerBook G4! 😁

I’d have to disagree with you there - every single PC laptop from that time has some sort of cover on the bottom of the side that only takes a few screws to open, with the hard drive right inside. The G4 iBook on the other hand is a monumental process that I’ve unfortunately had to do before to...

Compaq laptop brought back to life

Out of curiosity, what type of battery was the CMOS battery? A lot of laptops of the time used NiMH varta packs that leak. Not sure about Compaq, but Toshiba, Dell, IBM and Apple all did.

QuickTake 100 - proactive maintenance required?

Are they surface mount caps? If so, it doesn't matter how low voltage or cool they are, they will fail and leak. Even if they are through-hole caps, they can still fail. As long as they aren't surface mounted, you should be ok as long as it works (as Stephen said), but if they're surface mount...

Molar Mac (Power Macintosh G3) Upgrades!

Hard disks? Not since around 2011 IIRC and newer hard disks also won't work in the early G3s

Molar Mac (Power Macintosh G3) Upgrades!

Action Retro had luck with an industrial "disk on module", although they're ridiculously expensive. https://www.amazon.com/Kingspec-Industrial-Module-Vertical-Socket/dp/B00ODYF9W8 If I were you I'd look into a real SATA card.

Molar Mac (Power Macintosh G3) Upgrades!

It should theoretically work, although it will still be limited to the speed of the IDE bus. I must warn that the Power Mac G3s are known for having really picky IDE controllers that don't cooperate well with adapters, so it may not work.
