    Soldering temperature

I solder ridiculously hot, but I do it very quickly. It's just how I like to do it. Don't follow my lead though, high 300ºs sounds good.

Documentation for DB15 to VGA adapters

That makes sense, and has been done.

    Vintage Z-80 systems

The board will be meeting soon to discuss a few additions to the categories. I'll add this to it.

Documentation for DB15 to VGA adapters

Are some of those switches broken off, or are they just in the "on" position? I'm pretty sure I have complete documentation for this one, I'll post it as soon as I find it...

Documentation for DB15 to VGA adapters

Excellent. I might make a PDF of this. I'd hate for someone to click on the link at some time in the future and... 404!

Documentation for DB15 to VGA adapters

I'm regularly asked which adaptor to use when connecting a vintage Mac to a modern monitor using a DB15 to VGA adapter. There are so many different types of adapter around: some with 10 DIP switches, some with 8, some with 16 and some with none. Some sync on green, some do not. I would love...

Problem with IIci and NuBus cards (Solved!)

You say it doesn't work on your IIci, can you please elaborate on that? There are so many different factors that could result in the card not working, and a lot of them are software based. For example, does it have link lights? If so, do they light up when you connect it to your network? what...

    How do you pronounce “LIDO?”

It's pronounced Lie-doh. I say that with all the authority of someone who's had absolutely no external consultation. Shall we do the GIF pronunciation too? What about Bondi?

There's a lot of play in the position of the top case.

    Mac SE + BlueSCSI - Won't Bus-Power

You can test it in situ. Just put the multimeter in diode mode, then put a probe on each side of the diode. With the red probe on the striped side of the diode, you should get an open reading. Then swap the leads around so that the negative lead is on the striped side, and you should get a...

    Solder Paste/Flux Syringe Gun

I haven't tried one (yet), but I've seen some that look quite good. That one looks a little cumbersome to me. Here's a 3D printable option I plan to try: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4549023

In tech stuff, what's a little thing that just...bothers you more than it should?

I'm against software updates just for the sake of it. Software companies trying to think up new and useless features to justify the subscription fee you're paying for their software. Fix the bugs first please!

    Mac SE + BlueSCSI - Won't Bus-Power

Do you have a multimeter to test the diode at CR1 on the SE logic board?

    Power Macintosh 7200/7300/7500/7600 Power Button

I've refined the button design a little, and I'm finally happy with it. I printed it with a 0.16mm layer height. It should fit onto the base part of the original Thingiverse file, nice and snug. STL file attached if anyone wants it.

    The perfect "Bridge" Mac

I agree that the Lombard is a great bridge Mac for many purposes. To my knowledge, it's the only Mac with both USB and SCSI built-in. No serial ports though, so no good for the LocalTalk requirements.

Recommendatons for a new reflow station / hot air gun?

In the interest of this forum being a lasting resource, I should mention a couple of things about hot air stations for anyone that's looking for one. There is one main difference between the cheap stations and the more expensive units. When you look at a lot of the cheap models, you'll see a big...

    Power Macintosh 7200/7300/7500/7600 Power Button

I have a couple of machines that I bought with the power button missing altogether, so I needed a complete reproduction rather than just a repair. I wasn't particularly happy with the shape of the button part in the thingiverse STL, so I've made my own. It still needs a few tweaks, but it's...
