Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Well, because I'm the owner of only functional motherboards... :/ And It's been months I wanted to try the new ones. I've been very cautious, and will soldier sockets on the old board in case I need to go back. Red is finished now ! Will do some continuity / diodes / capacitor testing before...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

Hey all ! I now have 2 donor boards to complete my SE reloaded ones. Both are fully functional. As you can see from the picture below, they do hold two different Part Numbers : 630-4125 and 630-4250. Do you know what the differences are ? Apart from the silk screen colour, a jumper for RAM...

    Ultrasonic cleaner recommendations ?

Hi all ! Since I have quite a lot of vintage hardware to clean up, recap, etc... I'm considering getting an ultrasonic cleaner. I did use a small jewellery version to clean up small parts/boards, and it mostly worked, but I know need to go to a bigger version, as I have some motherboards to...

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

As a followup, I ordered caps to replace them all on the power board. In fact, after closer inspection, I do believe that some of them may have leaked, but somebody cleaned it a bit. Also, the connector was really dirty due to the old battery leakage. See photo below of before and after...

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

Yep. I haven't found any documentation or schematics, do we have any on that line where we could know what to probe ?

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

OK thank you all. The barrel definitely is not a good contact, but once in a position power does flow. I took a second look at the power board, and a few caps are definitely not flat on the top. Not very visible at first glance, but suspicious. I will inspect more and recap. Also I need to...

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

So, I just took off the three screws again, and plugged it in one more time and... it chimed, with everything else untouched, including the memory card. But the barrel jack is the number 1 culprit. Any reference for this ?

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

OK @rikerjoe and @3lectr1c , thanks for your initial thoughts. My first culprit is most probably the barrel jack, since it did chime before I completely tore it apart, and the green LED has always shown up. Now when pressing on the keyboard, the speaker cracks, so definitely a lot of bad...

    Mac SE FPD board connector

Oh good point, I should check the monitor as well.. it's just currently buried behind other Macs.

    Mac SE FPD board connector

Thank you ! Interesting, I have a totally different card from another vendor in fact ! See attached pictures. And I found someone with a similar card (DPD instead of FPD, I guess for Dual Page Display ?) on 68kMLA forum (see...

    Mac SE FPD board connector

Hi all ! I just acquired a Full Page Display board for Mac SE, which is good, because I do own an FPD :) However, the board was sold with just the ribbon cable from the card, and I guess there was something to connect it to a bracket leading outside. Do we have the pinout for this ?

    PowerBook 5300C repair help :)

Hi all ! I just get a PowerBook 5300, sold for parts on eBay. The overall external condition is pretty good, at least all plastics are nice (broken hinges for the door at the back), not broken, not scratched. Battery has died long ago. and the rubber feet... are nasty. The machine did chime a...

    "Spicy O'clock" project has started

Nice solution :) It goes well below, I could even reach 12.5 MHz, so as to match the factory speed if needed.

    "Spicy O'clock" project has started

Guys, OS-CON rules. I now seem to be able to get a stable 33 MHz, which I could not use before. I will reassemble, plug devices (that made the Spicy 660AV crash before) and see how stable it is. Also I will start to look at CPU temps and cooling, but since I have an RC33, I'm not too worried...

    "Spicy O'clock" project has started

Hello all ! So after replacing all caps on my 660AV with OS-CON, and also receiving the MC88920, I started again testing today. First good news, the Mac still boots up with the original 25 MHz. At least, recapping (for the second time...) went good. Now I need to figure out what's the upper...

Logic Board - Macintosh SE Reloaded

First of all, all my apologies for answering so late... My personal just took over, but I'm back. So, yes, I did bend the leads to make them fit in the holes. They were even so thick I also had to sand the leads a bit. I'm currently not using any glue or support, and it seems pretty rigid...

    "Spicy O'clock" project has started

So ! I think it will work. thank you for the suggestion @Drake ! This is how it looks like before a bit of cleaning. I will also put some hot glue to secure the yellow wire, as the solder point on the IC is extremely tiny ! I even wonder how I made it. Scraping the epoxy around what was left of...
