After fine adjusting, found the correct hole positions after six trials…..🛠

No…..
Its seven now 😇 but its perfect !

A pitty I have no original SE-30 mains connector and switch - for the actuall hole dimensions.
(Maybe I can harvest mains&switch from another blown Apple PSU (in beige) as I still have that somewhere)
Alternatively a common, well available standard mains and switch component is chosen.

Also the correct dimensions for the card-mount
I have to figure out.
( as I did add that specially so @Trash80toG4
can mount his IDE card there) 👍

Great, found something similar.
These are pretty standard sizes but still there is deviation between brands.

Nice project. Did you look at using an ipad screen? Is there any driver boards for them anywhere?

Thanks Fred,

I do enjoy this stuff!

Yes, a 9,7“ Ipad screen can be used for sure!
But it wont fit, and its non reversable conversion.
The Bezel has to be cut down to make use of the full display.

Drivers for the display can be found on Ebay/Ali.
Be aware to check the product number on the display (you may have) to find a suitable control board.
Otherwise complete display-Controller sets are sold.

A small adoptation to previous addition of the connection shield…..

As the bottompart mostly needs individual
correction anyhow, this has become a 3D printed component. This way its easier to locally adjust connectors/cables to non standard personal wishes.

The top powerconnections aswell as the cardmount have a standoff now, what brings the card, switch and connector more to the backside.

The issue to various size variation in switches and mains connectors is then also solved.

I feel this has become a decent solution to this matter. Comments welcome of course!

I LOVE that cut down, flattened bezel. I've plans to do the same thing from the front side using an outside limiting router jig with bit that will cut along the underside. Mostly for SE/SE/30 flatish bezels, but doing my Classic can be done the same way. (CNCenvy+)

Modular, printed backplane additions, comments? Fantabulous! :)

I like the fact that by this conversion even a 25+ Year old classic II still can look a bit more modern…..👍

Go for it, if youve got a spare enclosure!

Using an orbital sander with rough sandpaper at low rpm can do the job also.
You just have to be careful and work precise.

If I ever find the perfect LCD, my Lisa II front bezeI (only have that one single part) may get the same treatment. 🤪

Can't imagine doing it with a sander to achieve a perfectly planar interface with the LCD.

Whats the margin of the Lisa bezel?
What size display display would fit within that?
Best make a sectional drawing of that first.
You need to know exactly what level to flat out, and get it square, looking at it from the front.

CNC routing is a great way to do this job.
But any routing jig will do the job also. vibrating saw, sanding, scraping with a sharp knife…. You just need an accurate cutting line to work to, and some patience ofcourse.

Pre-Viz is a snap for me, olde schoole signpainter tricks employed with pencil or dry erase marker. :)

BezelModPreViz-00.JPG

Curvature at lower edge of Lisa is problematic w/o resurfacing and sanding away all texture from the balance of the bezel. No Problem for LisaP(ismo) forks of hack development, those will be in Black or Silver. A panel of the right size in 1600x1200 would likely be substituted to be run in the Pismo's unified VRAM, 24bit Clamshell mode. Very high resolution panel could be run if going with another low profile board like ITX running ubuntu in-bezel and second display in 1080p on the 42" pivoted toward the Hackhutch. AHHHHH!!!!!!! 4K daydreams!

Hey Fred,

Compliments are always appreciated!
CNC machines, suitable for home (shop) or desktop use is something ive been tinkering with -on and of - for the last 22Years.
CNC@home has come a long way, but its never been so „affordable“ and accesable as it is now.
So many examples on the web, just search for CNC homebuild.
Check the link in my Bio for my Pinterest pages on these and other adventures if you wish🍀

@Trash80toG4 , what would the viewable size space between those lines be then?

Alternatively, buy a suitable 4K display to your wishes and redraw the (adapted) Lisa front and have that 3D printed professionally?
Or have it machined from a solid block Ali? 🥰 You keep your Lisa untouched👍

Which set? It's all variable upon how deep I angle the marking instrument into the well. I can take w width/height spec, mark those on the bezel and stripe around from there anywhere between the point on the curves and the surface.

I'm tempted to have my way with that little bit of Lisa. But so far it's had its way with me.

I have my eye on this display though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/163550902275
My PowerBook 100's bezel covers up less than a mm in either direction. Waiting for Raspberry Pi CM5 before doing anything. Can't afford to do much of anything for a little over 74 weeks.

Teensy controller for 1400 KBD + Wombat for trackball + CM5 + customized carrier board > toy budget for entire wait.

< Dreams of running System 7 + OS9 in emulation on a truly Retina Display on BabyPB . . . with full size 1400 KBD. Ahhhh! 😇 >
