This might be a new limitation. It seems it was broken in V7.4 (v7.3 is okay). So two steps forward, one step back. In three weeks no one else has reported it, as we general frame, then capture, not capture then frame. It is a bug, and worth looking into.Sure, see the video, I just went from recording mode to Frame adjustment mode and when pushing the < > button(s) the frame on screen jump to totally zoom out.
I've seen this bug, but I didn't bother reporting it because it only happened once and I couldn't repeat it. Anyway, the workaround is simple enough: restart the unit. That said, if you are able to find and fix the bug, then you rock, as always! This might be a new limitation. It seems it was broken in V7.4 (v7.3 is okay). So two steps forward, one step back. Do the buttons work with type A or C? If this is a new configuration, it would nice to see what it shares with other configurations.Hi, all—
Just picked up the Kodak REELS. I was able to digitize an old 8mm reel my daughter found at an estate sale—with the shipping firmware.
Trying to install various firmware versions I have found in this thread have failed to work on my device. I also am unable to find a default firmware that will restore the device. Any ideas?
FWIW, S/N: H2825148BK00161
It was not recognized by the lookup tool so suggested version B.
A and C give me a messed up display when the machine powers up to the Home Screen.
B looks good (the Home Screen), but the buttons do not function.
Thanks!
Hi JKCalhoun , I have a European version bought in Nov 2025 which works with the attached original Kodak FW for H2324148BK Series. Might work for you too. Good luck.Hi, all—

Oh interesting! Let us know @JKCalhoun if this works for you, if so, this may be a new model "D" variant.Hi JKCalhoun , I have a European version bought in Nov 2025 which works with the attached original Kodak FW for H2324148BK Series. Might work for you too. Good luck.
Thanks for the great post!Based on the posts on this forum, and those that shared serial numbers, it seems there is a fourth hardware configuration and therefore a Type D firmware needed. We have seen two units on this forum with H2825xx serials, that will not support button presses after update, but the LCD driver suggests it is very close to type B. Anyone else with H2825 serials please do not install, but do post here so we can work out how to extract your original firmware before it is erased with any firmware update.
This suggests the unit is crashing, it is not the buttons aren't working. Return it. The manufacture can easily refurb the units, and would have this issue if A) they didn't do a sloppy design, and B) they would provide users installable firmware.Thanks. It occurred to me that I could return the unit to Amazon where I bought it and exchange it for another unit—and not molest that one. It seems like a rotten thing to do though…
I tested your "D" test version and did not see a "color palette test". In fact it booted to a normal looking Home Screen—non-functional buttons.
Is there a way to enable the color palette test? Or ought it have kicked off itself?
Attached is the (brief) info screen before the Home Screen and the final Home Screen (buttons do not work):
Thanks, as per 0dan0's advice I returned my unit, so I'm currently without. I'll try this if the next one has this too.My experience is that the shaking is caused by dried or poorly cut film. The gripper on dried film does not fit exactly into the perforation. On poorly cut film, the gripper does not have the strength to advance the film. Both of these problems are indicated by a loud clicking sound.
Try using my modification that I write about here #573
Not saying problem, Steve. It seems now it was inevitable—I just happened to get lucky.I'm very sorry @JKCalhoun
